Name of the Movie With Four Ladies Funny

Cher (from left), Susan Sarandon and Michelle Pfeiffer star in "The Witches of Eastwick." The hair tells you the movie came out in 1987.

The Bechdel test is a measure of basic gender equality in film, and it's easy to pass. All a movie has to have is two female characters who talk to each other about something other than a man. Pay attention next time you're at the theater — a shocking number of movies fail this simple test.

But not the movies on this list.

Not only do women rule the roost, they do so with flair — and a potty mouth. Here are seven of our favorite R-rated comedies starring women.

7. 'Bad Moms' (2016)

"Bad Moms" lives up to its title. The fed-up women in this R-rated matriarchy — Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn — chug scotch and wine. They go wild on whippets. They have sex with hot widowers on the granite islands in their handsomely appointed kitchens. But beneath that patina of penis jokes and four-letter words beats a sentimental heart.

"Bad Moms," played by (from left) Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis and Kathryn Hahn, decide to get their drink on.

6. 'Spy' (2015)

Melissa McCarthy's brash, highly physical brand of comedy is nobody's idea of stealth, which makes her all the more riotous as an undercover agent. "Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig created another crowd-pleasing vehicle worthy of her talent with "Spy," where McCarthy a plays mild-mannered, deskbound CIA analyst who's drawn into a world of globetrotting espionage to foil an arms dealer. McCarthy owns the spotlight, but Rose Byrne, Jude Law and, surprisingly, Jason Statham make for hilarious co-stars.

5. 'Romy and Michele's High School Reunion' (1997)

For some sad souls, all of life is high school. Your social standing, the cliques you formed, the rejections you weathered — all follow you through the world ever after. Those are the terrors that compel BFFs Romy and Michele (Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow) to concoct shiny new, fake lives to wear to their 10th high-school reunion in an effort to impress the popular jerks who made their lives a living hell. It's a sincere, warmhearted story about the importance of staying true to yourself, but we keep coming back for a foul-mouthed, chain-smoking Janeane Garofalo.

4. 'The Witches of Eastwick' (1987)

Careful what you wish for, especially if it's the attentions of a mysterious man — you might just end up with Jack Nicholson in silk pajamas knocking on your door. That's the conundrum three accidental, single witches find themselves in when they accidentally summon the devil to their postcard-perfect New England town in George Miller's decidedly over-the-top adaptation of John Updike's novel. But who better to take on the devil than Cher, Susan Sarandon and Michelle Pfeiffer, three of the most fierce and beautiful women in the world?

3. 'Obvious Child' (2014)

Jenny Slate is equal parts sweet and filthy playing a freshly dumped 20-something stand-up comic who ends up pregnant after a drunken hook-up with the perfect guy. "Obvious Child" is like a thousand lovingly crafted indie films that came before it. And its romantic beats are every bit as familiar, except in director and writer Gillian Robespierre's debut feature film, the key step between meet-cute and happily ever after is a trip to the abortion clinic.

Jenny Slate stars in "Obvious Child."

2. 'Bridesmaids' (2011)

"Hey, maybe women are funny," said a lot of people, presumably after waking up from a thousand-year coma, after seeing this filthy-mouthed Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo-written comedy. Annie (Wiig), who's having a rough go at adult life thus far, struggles to deal with being maid of honor to best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph), who seems to have her act together, with plenty of criticism of the wedding industrial complex to spare.

Kristen Wiig stars in "Bridesmaids."

1. 'Bridget Jones's Diary' (2001)

Bridget Jones is a woman caught between a cad and a hard place in this cute and clever take on Jane Austen's immortal "Pride and Prejudice." The smoking, drinking, accident-prone, occasionally vulgar 30-something spinster kicks off her midlife crisis early, embarking on an ill-advised affair with her rakish boss (Hugh Grant). Renée Zellweger is so winning in the title role, one can forgive her for taking so long to fall swooning into Colin Firth's waiting arms. At least she's charming about it.
